Put aside 45 minutes for our first appointment together. Your doctor's referral will give me your test results and medical history.

It can be helpful to bring a support person to our meeting. If you’re not the person regularly cooking or shopping for food, bringing that person with you might be best.
Our first appointment is about getting to know you and what you need support with. We’ll spend time talking about your nutrition questions and what will help you achieve your goals. If available, I’ll already have your blood tests as well as other relevant information from your doctor. So, we’ll review these results together and ensure you understand them.
I’m a dietitian, so we’ll talk about what you eat, what you like to eat, when and where you eat, and why you make the food choices you do. This will help me tailor my advice to be as practical and relevant to your life as possible.
Then, we’ll talk about how you can delay the progression of your kidney disease or preserve kidney function. When you leave, you’ll have a tailored, nutrition plan and supporting information to help you manage your kidney disease clearly and leave you feeling confidently in control. I’ll write to your doctor and give you a copy, to tell them what we’ve spoken about.
Your follow-up appointment will be 30 minutes long. If we need repeat blood tests before your appointment, I’ll contact you to let you know. You might need more blood tests to check the impact of the nutrition changes.
It is an opportunity for you to check in with me and ask any questions or express any concerns you might have. We’ll see how you’re progressing with your nutrition goals and provide further suggestions to help you achieve your goals
